Come join us at Birmingham Guild of Students

The Guild of Students is a successful, vibrant and exciting organisation, with an extensive history leading the student movement and a bright future ahead. A registered charity, we are the students’ union for more than 37,000 students at the University of Birmingham.

We represent our members to the University and aim to be the authoritative voice on the issues that matter the most to Birmingham students. We help students develop skills outside of study, have fun, meet new people and make sure that they can get the best from Birmingham! You can find out more about our work at www.guildofstudents.com/about/who-we-are

We’re very proud that our work for Birmingham students has been recognised as sector-leading and we’ve recently been awarded:

  • National Union of Students Union of the Year 2018/19

  • National Union of Students Quality Student Unions – Excellent Award

  • Investors in People - Silver Award

  • Best Bar None – Gold Award

  • NUS Green Impact – Excellent status

It’s an exciting time for the Guild, as we look to continue this excellence through the delivery of our Strategic Plan for 2018-21 and a strong and active Trustee Board will be essential as we move forwards.

Our current Strategic Plan was developed in response to an extensive research and consultation exercise, which involved more than 3,800 students. Designed in direct response to this feedback, our Plan focusses on the following priorities:

  1. Engagement and Participation: By 2021 we will encourage more students from under-represented groups to engage with, and participate in, our activities by:

  2. Communication: By 2021, we will be a students’ union that students identify with and want to be part of.

  3. Academic Learning: By 2021, we will improve the academic experience of students studying at Birmingham.

  4. Representing the Student Voice: By 2021, we will be an expert on Birmingham students and represent them in the issues that matter.

  5. Support: By 2021, we will develop a culture of support that ensures the Guild is the first port of call for students needing help and advice.

  6. Personal Development: By 2021, we will provide opportunities that enable students to gain relevant experience and increase their employability.

We would be particularly interested to hear from individuals with experience of financial management and/or commercial service management, strategic and change management, however these are not essential.

The Guild values applications from a wide range of backgrounds that are reflective of the diversity of Birmingham’s community.
