Come join us at Teesside Students' Union

Our Students’ Union represents all of the students of Teesside University and provides a range of services for its 20,000 student members who rank it in the UK Top 10%.  We are registered charity number 1136875 with an annual income of £3 million, nearly 300 staff and 800 volunteers. We operate a wide range of services for students including:

  • Social spaces, meeting rooms, and training spaces for students
  • SU Student Support - advice and advocacy on finances, housing, and academic issues, jobs service
  • SU Activities with over 90 student clubs and societies led by student volunteers and a range of other activities
  • The Terrace bar, The Hub venue, and the SU Shop

We are looking for two committed trustees to join our Board of Trustees (4 External Trustees, 3 Officer Trustees, 2 Student Trustees) who can help us continue to improve the services we provide for all our members. Our External Trustees are appointed for a term of up to four years. They attend all Board meetings (four in each year), reading papers and reports, and the Annual General Meeting.

We welcome applications from all backgrounds and ages over 18 but are looking for knowledge and enthusiasm about higher education and institutions, charities and governance. You will assist us in scrutinising the Students’ Union’s performance for students, giving us vision and strategy, and supporting an effective Board of Trustees.

We will provide training that covers the role and responsibilities of being a trustee to build on your previous experience with an induction to the Students’ Union, and a trustee mentor. The role is unpaid but reasonable expenses may be claimed.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful and dynamic educational charity and develop your skills and knowledge. For an informal conversation about this opportunity, please contact Jon Berg Chief Executive on 01642 342238.
