Come join us at Durham SU

Durham SU is the champion of every Durham student. That means we care about the things that matter to them. We stand up for their rights. We bring them together. And we celebrate their successes. We know that our students already make extraordinary contributions to each other’s time at Durham, to the University itself, and to the community we share. Its why we’ve committed to a four year plan to ensure that every student has both power and opportunity to transform their time at Durham.

Durham SU’s principles make us stronger. We champion students because we know as a student rights organisation, collectivism makes us stronger, and we trust our students to make the best decisions about the things that affect them. We’re proud of Durham so we always recognise success, while striving to be better, but our collegiate University means we do things differently. We like that. And we’re here to make the future better - as a students’ union that’s relentless in pursuit of our vision, we make change for students, with students, in their interests.

We’ve coming out of a few years of foundational change, and now we’re ready to grow with a confident volunteer network, awesome staff team, and good organisational finances. We’re looking for a lay Trustee who, first and foremost, is excited to be part of our future. We’ll expect our new Trustee to be able to help us, in particular, with developing our culture and the way we help our volunteers and staff to do amazing things, so a background in people and organisational development would be of particular interest.

We’re working on becoming ever more diverse, because we know that good decisions are made when different people share their experience. We’d especially love to hear from candidates who are women, and who come from a BME background.
